Hanover Co-op Market (Hanover Market): Hanover, NH   Write a Review

[Co-ops & Grocery Stores] Updated: 2012-08-24
One of many consumer cooperatives started during the years of the Great Depression, the Hanover Consumer Co-op is now among the oldest in the United States. In January of 1936, 17 Hanover and Norwich residents formed the Hanover Consumer’s Club. Initially, members of the fledgling co-op pooled orders for potatoes, oranges, and maple syrup and arranged for discounts of gasoline and fuel oil with local suppliers. A year later, co-op members incorporated as the Hanover Consumer Cooperative Society and opened a small retail store in a basement on Hanover’s Main Street. By mid-2000, membership in the Co-op stood at 20,000 households representing over 30,000 individual members. Now the Hanover Consumer Cooperative Society operates the Co-op Food Stores, Co-op Community Food market, and Co-op Service Center. These businesses are operated for the benefit of our members and community. During more than 60 years of operation, the products and services offered by the co-op have changed in response to the changing needs of our members. Both Co-op Food Stores offer an extraordinary selection of products including natural and organic produce and meats, a complete selection of brand-name and store label groceries, natural health and body care, wines and cheeses, and a wide variety of local products. Our new Co-op market is under construction. It will be an environmentally friendly building and feature a much broader product line. Plans call for a real produce section, a deli, and expanded frozen food, meat, and prepared foods sections. There will be seating for patrons, as well.

Good Foods Market & Cafe: Lexington, KY   Write a Review

[Co-ops & Grocery Stores] Updated: 2012-08-23
Good Foods market & Café is a locally owned and operated cooperative business where everyone is welcome! Good Foods has been serving our community since 1972. With a modest start as a buying club in a garage, we now claim a vibrant 20,000 square foot market and Café. In 2002, we expanded our location by adding a 2,825 square foot Café. Again in 2004 we expanded by opening a satellite café, Good Foods Chapter 2, in the downtown Lexington Public Library. Our most recent expansion in 2009 was completed on time and under budget as we celebrated with a Grand Reopening in February 2010. The renovated store features an artisan bakery, more produce, expanded grocery selections, and a beautifully renovated Café with larger bathrooms. Good Foods is a dynamic cooperative today because of our dedication to serve our growing and changing ownership. We invite you to walk into our market & Café and be greeted by a bountiful selection of fresh, crisp produce. We are proud to support numerous Kentucky producers and farmers. From posters throughout our market you can see who is growing your food. Our focus is on natural, organic, and whole foods. In our market, we offer a variety of fresh fish and natural meats, supplements, housewares, bath and body care, and pet supplies. Our Cafés offer numerous homemade options. On Southland Dr. that includes a salad bar, a lunch and dinner hot buffet, gourmet sandwiches, fresh sushi, and an espresso, juice, and fruit smoothie bar. Good Foods Chapter 2 offers many of our sandwich, coffee, smoothie, and sushi selections for the downtown crowd. We are active within our community, attending health fairs, offering Nutrition Missions to organizations, and participating in fairs and expos. We support local organizations through our Give Where You Live Partner program, where we donate 10¢ per transaction with reusable bag(s) to a local organization. Additionally, we match 25% of shopper donations at month’s end and help educate the community about our Give Where You Live Partner.

Kelley Orchards is a family-owned and operated farm located near Weiser Idaho. The fertile soils of the Treasure Valley, long summer days and cool nights along the Snake River make for ideal fruit growing conditions. Our orchards are made up of multiple variteies of cherries, peaches, nectarines, plums, and apples. This diversity ensures that our local customers will get the freshest, most flavorful assortment we can possibly offer. Why Buy Locally Grown? The shorter the distance from farm to market, the fresher the product and the riper it can be picked with better flavor. Pretty simple!
